The Governing Body of Cranford Park CE Primary School:

The school governors work closely with the head teacher. Their work focuses mainly on three core functions:

(1) setting the school’s strategic framework and ensuring all statutory duties are met;

(2) acting as a ‘critical friend,’ supporting the head teacher and holding them to account for the day-to-day running of the school;

(3) overseeing the school’s financial performance and ensuring its money is well-spent.

As Governors, we continue to be very grateful for the skill, effort, perseverance, professionalism, care for the children, and teamwork that the Staff demonstrate in facing the challenges of the day-to-day running of the school. We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks for all they do.

How we are organised

Our Governing Body is made up of 12 Governors, appointed as follows:

· 2 parent Governors, appointed by a ballot of parents

· 3 Foundation Governors, appointed by the Diocese

· 6 Co-Opted Governors

· 1 Staff Governor, appointed by a ballot of the school staff

A list of the current Governors can be found below.

We have two main committees, which undertake much of the detailed work of Governance, in line with their terms of reference:

· Curriculum Committee. Responsible for reviewing what the children are taught and how well they are being taught it.

· Resources Committee. Responsible for setting and monitoring the school budget and personnel matters, overseeing the financial management of the school, as well as the maintenance of the buildings and all matters relating to health and safety.

The Governing Body Operating Procedures can be found here.

Governor Profiles

Mrs Faith Bailey

Chair of Governors

Foundation Governor

I have lived in Yateley with my husband for nearly 25 years and have been very happy here. We have two sons, one is at university in Manchester and the other works in Leicester.

I was a governor at St Peters Junior school before the amalgamation, but that seems a distant memory now. It has been really interesting to be on the Governing Body of Cranford Park right from the start and I believe the school has an exciting future . I am a foundation governor, which means I am one of three representatives of St Peters Church on the governing body, and so it won’t be a surprise when I say that I am actively involved at the church. I coordinate all of the childrens and family events that take place there and help to lead one of the weekly services with my husband.

I have had a mixed career, starting as a paint technologist developing and testing paints for respraying cars, I then researched engineering plastics and worked in the space industry helping to build satellites. Finally, when my children were young I trained as a teacher. I like to spend time regularly in the school as a helper and I also lead some collective acts of worship (assemblies). I really enjoying getting to know the children and being part of the school community

Mrs Magali Butler
Co-opted Governor

I am French native and very happily married to an English artist - we are the proud parents of a daughter aged 7 and a son who is 4. We live in Frogmore Green (aptly named for a French person!). My husband and I first met when we were both thirteen, and it was around that time, too, when my love affair began with the English language, which I studied at University in my home city, Paris. All of my adult life has been spent in education and much of it in the Surrey/Hampshire area, with which I started to become familiar as a teenager on exchange visits. I am Head of Classics and I also teach French and German in a local prep school. I relished the chance of becoming a parent governor because it afforded me the opportunity to give something back to the local community.

Mr Julian Bland

Co-opted Governor

I am Julian Bland, I am married to Jo and we have two daughters, I have lived in Yateley for 8 years. I work at Waitrose Head Office in Bracknell, who encourage and support their employees to take up posts within the community.   I have been a Governor since May 2009. My eldest daughter has  now moved onto Secondary School and my youngest is in Year 3.  It was a challenging couple of years as a governor as the two schools amalgamated, but now this role gives me  great satisfaction,  as the new school progresses in to the number one school choice in Yateley.

Rev. Andy Edmunds

Foundation Governor

In July 2011 I was appointed Vicar of Yateley and happily, that brings the opportunity to serve as a Foundation Governor at Cranford Park School. As a young man I trained as a teacher and taught for a short while before qualifying and working for 6 years as a social worker. After training for ministry in the Church of England I served in parishes in Essex, Devon and Derbyshire. Before coming to Yateley I spent 2 years as the Operations Director of a charity that provides youth and children’s work in the Midlands. I have served as a Foundation Governor in other schools for over 15 years.

Authority Governor

Mr Gene Ashe

Parent Governor

I am a proud husband of Clare and father of Benjamin in Year 2.

I have worked in the Fire Service for the last 29 years and have led the Learning and Development function for 10 years. I believe in education and development at all levels and have progressed this belief by acting as a mentor and role model for children and teenagers from different backgrounds.

We settled in Yateley in 2008 having spent some time working in Wales. Our return to England allowed me to progress my wish to become more involved in education.

In addition to my parent governor role I am an Authority appointed governor in Reading. This has given me valuable experience and understanding of the role of a governor. This has also allowed me to both develop my strategic management skills and support the senior management of the school.

I am interested in the curriculum our children cover and see the experience gained within my professional role as an ideal opportunity to support Cranford Park in its aspirations to develop and educate the children of the area.

 Mr Terry Lumley

Coopted Governor

My name is Terry Lumley, recently retired from a career in customer service for a global consumer electronics brand.  I live locally with my wife, having a grown up son who has moved up to London after completing his formal education.  I wanted to contribute to the community and believe my experiences helping customers all around the World can translate into supporting the school to deliver great service to its parents and achieve its own far reaching objectives.  Being a School governor is an important role and one which I will take most seriously.  terrylumley

Mr Eamon O’Reilly

Coopted  Governor

My name is Eamon O’ Reilly. I have just started my fourth year as a Parent Governor at Cranford Park Primary. I moved from Ireland in 1996 and have lived in the area for over 15 years. I am a health professional by day working in Cancer and Palliative care and i joined the governing body with a view to bringing my experiences from working in the NHS to blend in with the other skills my fellow governors bring to the table.

In taking on the role I wanted to be able to represent a “typical parent” and to be in a position to challenge and support the pursuit of high standards, best possible results, and promote a safe and friendly environment that supports the wellbeing of the children of our community and the staff that work in our school.   Along with sitting on the main governing body I also have been fortunate to be part of the resources committee. Being a parent governor I have a vested interest in the schools strategic direction and governance as I have a daughter in Year 4 and a son in Year 3.

Mrs Heather Millington

Vice Chair

Parent Govenor

Having been in the local area for many years, we moved to Yateley in April 2011. My daughter Abigail started at Cranford Park in January 2012 during Year 3 and instantly settled in, which I believe is a reflection on the school's welcoming and friendly environment. This experience influenced my decision to apply to become a school governor as well as wanting to play a role within our local community.

I work in project & programme management within organisations that are undertaking major business change,  leading people & the organisation through what can be very unsettling times.

I thoroughly enjoy my role as school governor and I feel privileged to be working for a school that has such a bright and successful future ahead of it.
